Sant Kabir Nagar district profile
Sant Kabir Nagar (area: 1,659 sq km) is one of the districts covered by PACS in eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is a part of Basti divsion. Khalilabad town is the district headquarters.
The district is bordered to the north by Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj districts, to the east by Gorakhpur district, to the south by Ambedkar Nagar district, and to the west by the district of Basti.
Sant Kabir Nagar is named after the 15th century mystic poet Kabir, who lived in Maghar town in the district. It was created on September 5, 1997.
The district is divided topographically into several distinct tracts: the low valley of the Ghaghra in the south, the central uplands, and the low paddy belt between the Rapti and other rivers.
Around 21% of the population belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute around 24% of the population.
