Samastipur district profile
Samastipur is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district covers an area of 2,904 sq km. Its headquarters is at Samastipur.
Samastipur is bordered on the north by the Baghmati river which separates it from Darbhanga district. On the west are the districts of Vaishali and part of Muzaffarpur; on the south is the Ganga and on the east Begusarai and parts of Khagaria districts. Sub-divisions are Dalsinghsarai, Patori, Rosera and Samastipur Sadar.
Samastipur is traversed by rivers like the Burhi Gandak, Baya, Kosi, Kamla, Kareh, Jhamwari and Balan. The Ganga also skirts the district on the south.
Around 18% of the population of Samastipur belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute 10.5% of the population.
