Sahibganj

Sahibganj district profile
Sahibganj (area: 1,599 sq km) is one of the districts covered by PACS in Jharkhand. The district, with its predominantly tribal population, is a part of Santhal Parganas division and forms its easternmost tip. The Rajmahal and Pakur sub-divisions of the old Santhal Parganas district were carved out on May 17, 1983, to form Sahibganj district. Subsequently, Pakur sub-division of Sahibganj district was created on January 28, 1994, to constitute Pakur district.

The district can be divided into two natural divisions based on its geographical features. The first consists of Borio, Mandro, Barhait, Pathna and Taljhari blocks, and is a part of the Damin-i-koh region. The hills here are covered with forests. The second region consists of Sahibganj, Rajmahal, Udhwa and Barharwa blocks. It comprises the uplands and undulates along ridges and depressions. The Ganga, Gumani and Bansloi rivers are major rivers.

Around 29% of the population here belongs to the scheduled tribes. Muslims constitute around 31% of the population.
