Samagra Shikshan Evam Vikas Sansthan (SSEVS) is a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) that focuses on strengthening local people’s movements and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) to achieve their rights. In their work with PACS, SSEVS are working in 211 villages in the Siwan and West Champaran districts of Bihar to ensure that socially excluded communities are able to access their employment and land rights entitlements.

SSEVS’ project with PACS involves:

  • Empowering women and men from socially excluded groups to stand up for their land rights under state land rights legislation and achieve equitable claims to local economic resources in their region.
  • Ensuring better access to employment opportunities and a more effective use of provisions under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
  • Developing the leadership and organisational capacities of communities and to facilitate their representation in decision-making bodies at all levels.
Impact so far…

SSEVS’ project with PACS started in September 2011. So far the following results have been achieved:

  • 228 CBOs have been formed.
  • 221 households have been supported to apply for MGNREGA job cards.
  • 658 households have received MGNREGA jobs under the MGNREGA scheme.
  • 685 revenue land rights applications have been made. 43 of these have so far been approved.

NB – these are figures from December 2014.

Samagra Shikshan Evam Vikas Sansthan (SSEVS) was founded in 1988 to strengthen local people’s movements and CBOs. The organisation and its network partners help to build the capacity of these local groups through leadership skills training, as well as through campaigns to disseminate information on legal provisions and acts.

Find out more about SSEVS’ work on their website (, which was built as part of the CSO website project (funded by PACS).
