Nuapada district profile
Nuapada is one of the districts covered by PACS in Orissa. The district is spread over an area of 3,407.5 sq km, in the western part of the state. Its boundaries extend in the north, west and south to Raipur district of Madhya Pradesh, and in the east to Bargarh, Balangir and Kalahandi districts. The administrative headquarters is at Nuapada.
Nuapada district was a part of Kalahandi district till early March 1993, when, for administrative convenience, the district was divided into two parts: Kalahandi and Nuapada. Nuapada district comprises one sub-division, two tehsils, and five community development blocks.
The plains of Nuapada sub-division are fringed by hill ranges stretching southward. They form part of the Eastern Ghats and contain extensive plateaus of about 4,000 feet elevation. They are rich in mineral deposits.
Around 34% of the district’s population belongs to the scheduled tribes.
