India's pioneering "Home-based New Born Scheme" has shown the world a new way to cut down on neonatal mortality (within 28 days of birth).

Almost 13 years after Dr Abhay Bang demonstrated a 62% reduction in neonatal mortality through multiple home visits in Maharashtra, the World Health Organization (WHO) has touted it as a global policy.In a neonatal health meeting held in Geneva last week, the WHO praised India's leadership in rolling out the scheme and asked all countries recording high neonatal mortality to introduce similar interventions.
