Hazare's Lokpal Bill fast

9 April 2011

Social activist Anna Hazare has ended his 'fast-unto-death' after the government agreed to his demands for the redrafting of the Lokpal Bill.

The bill, which provides a mechanism for filing corruption complaints against the Prime Minister, other ministers and members of parliament, will be redrafted with the participation of civil society.

The Gandhian leader's fast, which lasted four days, has won nationwide support for his anti-corruption campaign and created buzz across social media and web channels.

The endorsement of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi was the final push needed: "I am sure that Anna Hazareji's views will receive the government's full attention as we move forward to fight this menace (of corruption)."
