There is an urgent need to review and reform the existing anti-child labour legislation and policies in the country and adapt them to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE) and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000
 
the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) declared in a joint statement here today, on the occasion of the 11th World Day Against Child Labour.
 
According to Unicef, India has as many as 447 million children, of which 12 per cent are child labourers. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) pegs the number of child labourers worldwide at 218 million.
