Nalanda is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district (area: 2,367 sq km) is a part of Patna division. Bihar Sharif town is the administrative headquarters of the district.

Sub-divisions include Bihar Sharif, Rajgir and Hilsa. The district’s blocks are: Giriyak, Rahui, Nursarai, Harnaut, Chandi (Nalanda), Islampur (Nalanda), Rajgir, Asthawan, Sarmera, Hilsa, Bihar Sharif, Ekangarsarai, Ben, Nagarnausa, Karai Parsarai, Silao, Parwalpur, Katrisarai, Bind and Tharthari.

Important rivers here include the Phalgu and the Mohane.

Around 20% of the population of this district belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute around 7.5% of the population.
