Muzaffarpur is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district (area: 3,173 sq km) is a part of Tirhut division. Muzaffarpur town is the administrative headquarters.
The district of Muzaffarpur, one of the largest commercial and educational centres in north Bihar, was created in 1875. It was named after Muzaffar Khan, a revenue officer under British rule. Muzaffarpur is bordered by Purbi Champaran and Sitamarhi districts to the north, Vaishali and Saran districts to the south, Darbhanga and Samastipur districts to the east, and Saran and Gopalganj districts to the west.
Around 16% of the population of Muzaffarpur belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute 15% of the population.
