Maldah district profile
Maldah is one of the districts covered by PACS in West Bengal. The district, the southernmost of the north Bengal districts, falls within Jalpaiguri division. It is bordered by Bangladesh and South Dinajpur in the east, Santhal Parganas of Jharkhand in the west, Uttar Dinajpur in the north, and Murshidabad in the south.
The district has two sub-divisions: Sadar and Chanchal. English Bazar is the district headquarters.
Old Maldah, a town just east of the confluence of the Mahananda and Kalindi rivers, is part of the English Bazar urban agglomeration.
Around 16% of the population belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute around half the population of the district and form the largest religious group.
