Maharajganj district profile

Maharajganj (area: 2,934 sq km) is one of the districts covered by PACS in Uttar Pradesh. The district was carved out from Gorakhpur district on October 2, 1989. It is situated at the Indo-Nepal border.

The district is bordered by Nepal in the north,  Kushinagar district in the south, Padrauna district in the east, and Siddharthnagar and Sant Kabir Nagar districts in the west. Nearly 12% of the district’s total area is forested. The town of Maharajganj is the district headquarters.

Around 19% of the population belongs to the scheduled castes. Around 16% of the population is Muslim.
