Madhubani is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district (area: 3,501 sq km) is a part of Darbhanga division. Madhubani town is the administrative headquarters of the district. Madhubani has five sub-divisions: Madhubani, Jaynagar, Benipatti, Jhanjharpur and Phulparas.

Important rivers include the Kamala, Bhutahi Balaan, Bachharaja, Balaan, Tirsulla and Jeevachh. The famous ‘Madhubani style’ of painting, which originated here in the early 17th century, derives its name from this region.

Around 13% of the population of Madhubani belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute 18% of the population.
