Kendujhar district profile
Kendujhar is one of the districts covered by PACS in Orissa. The district, also known as Keonjhar, covers an area of 8,240 sq km in the northern part of Orissa. It is bordered by Mayurbhanj district and Bhadrak district to the east, Jajpur district to the south, Dhenkanal and Sundargarh districts to the west, and Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district to the north. Kendujhar town is the district headquarters.
The district has three sub-divisions -- Anandapur, Champua and Kendujhar -- and 10 tehsils. The Baitarani is an important river. Kendujhar boasts one of the oldest rock formations in the world (approximately 38,000 million years old), covering an area of 100 sq km, at Asanpat.
Scheduled tribes constitute around 44% of the total population; scheduled castes constitute around 12%.
