Katihar district profile
Katihar is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district (area: 3,056 sq km) is a part of Purnia division. It was established, on October 2, 1973, by separating Katihar sub-division from the district of Purnia. Katihar town is the administrative headquarters of the district.
The district comprises three sub-divisions: Katihar, Barsoi and Manihari. Katihar sub-division is further divided into 10 blocks: Katihar, Korha, Falka, Sameli, Barari, Kursela, Pranpur, Hasanganj, Dandkhora and Mansahi. Barsoi sub-division consists of four blocks: Barsoi, Kadwa, Azamnagar and Balrampur. Manihari sub-division has two blocks: Manihari and Amdabad.
Major rivers in the region include the Mahananda, Ganga, Kosi, and Righa.
Around 9% of the population belongs to scheduled castes. Muslims constitute 45% of the population.
