Jharsuguda district: statistical profile

Jharsuguda is one of the districts covered by PACS in Orissa. The district (area: 2,081 sq km) came into existence on April 1, 1994, through an amalgamation of the erstwhile jamindars of Rampur, Kolabira, Padampur and Kudabaga. Today, it comprises five blocks: Lakhanpur, Kolabira, Laikera, Kirmira and Jharsuguda. Jharsuguda town is the district headquarters.

The region is rich in coal and other mineral reserves.

Around 31% of the population belongs to the scheduled tribes; 17% belongs to scheduled castes.
