About JSS

Jalpaiguri Seva Sadan (JSS) is a social and charitable wing of the Catholic Diocese of Jalpaiguri, working for the development of people. They particularly work with scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST); within these groups they work with children, girls, women, widows of tea garden workers, farmers, other marginalised communities and people living below poverty line.

The organisation started work in 1971 during the Bangladesh war, doing relief work and distributing food. JSS registered itself as a social development organisation in 1987.

JSS undertakes various socio-economic development activities in two districts of Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar, specifically on issues of education, health, disaster management, livelihood support, migration and the prevention of human trafficking.
