The aim of the PGSS project is inclusion of socially excluded groups through collective action for their rights and entitlements.

The project's purpose is to ensure that socially excluded groups attain better socio-economic status and recognition through the exercising of rights and access to opportunities.

The PGSS project is working in 140 villages of Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj districts in Uttar Pradesh. PACS is supporting the project for four years.

PGSS aims

  • Community mobilisation and formation of groups from excluded communities to ensure participation of the excluded in raising their voice for their rights.

  • Capacity building of community based organisations (CBOs) on issues related to social exclusion.

  • Establishing community based information centres to assist members from excluded communities through availability of relevant information on MNREGA.

  • Increase interface with government bodies through participation in planning and review meetings of government bodies in order to generate their support on social exclusion.

 

About Purvanchal Gramin Seva Samiti (PGSS)

Purvanchal Gramin Seva Samiti (PGSS) was formed in 1986. The organisation is the social service unit of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). PGSS works for empowerment of the marginalised and vulnerable groups of society in seven districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The focus themes are women's empowerment, sustainable agriculture, community based rehabilitation of special children, community health, community access to rights, advocacy and local self governance.

 

Network partners

PACS encourages projects to collaborate with like-minded organisations to deliver the best results in the designated project area. These collaborations are called network projects. PGSS is implementing the project with the four network partners:

  • Bhartiya Jan Kalyan Evam Prashikshan Sansthan (BJKEPS)

  • Purvanchal Seva Sansthan (PSS)

  • Vikalp

  • Yuva Chetna Kendra (YCK).
