The project's purpose is to enable socially excluded communities to access sustainable livelihoods and quality basic services, through community based organisations (CBOs) and awareness generation.

The NBNVS project is working in 352 villages in the Ballia, Mau and Ghazipur districts of Uttar Pradesh. PACS is supporting the project for four years.

NBNVS aims

  • Creating a federation of community based organisation (CBOs) on specific issues faced by socially excluded communities at the district and block level, to strengthen and sustain community level initiatives and processes.

  • Awareness generation among the socially excluded communities on various government programmes.

  • Capacity building of community leaders and religious leaders to ensure increased representation and participation of socially excluded communities in decision making.

  • Ensure Village Education Committees (VEC), Village Health Committees (VHC) and Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) are active actors in bringing down social exclusion through capacity building.

  • Advocacy engagements and interface meetings with service providers to ensure accountable and inclusive governance and organise public hearings by involving district/block/Panchayat level government functionaries.

 

About NBNVS

Nav Bharatiya Nari VIkas Samiti (NBNVS) was formed in 1993. The organisation works in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and focuses on strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), urban local bodies and agricultural practices.

NBNVS works on issues of environment, migration and human trafficking, child labour, and women's empowerment. It is also working on government funded projects, including Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna (SGSY), Janani Suraksha Yojna (JSY), Total Sanitation Program and the land and water conservation programme.
 

Network partners

PACS encourages projects to collaborate with like-minded organisations to deliver the best results in the designated project area. These collaborations are called network projects. NBNVS is implementing the project with the four network partners:

  • Nav Jyoti Mahila Kalyan Samiti, Ballia

  • Nirbal Seva Samiti, Mau

  • Jan Sewa Sansthan, Ghazipur.
