Non-discriminatory access to right to basic services through education. |
The Lokmitra project aims to promote the right of socially excluded children to learn and grow and the right to education, through better implementation and further improvement in government policies.
The project's purpose is the attainment of 'right to education' for marginalised and excluded children, in the context of the new Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RCFCE) 2009. They aim to achieve this by scaling up the work of parents' associations, teachers' forums and basic education forums (Shiksha Manch).
The Lokmitra project is working in 163 villages and 11 urban wards of the Lucknow, Pratapgarh and Rae Bareli districts of Uttar Pradesh. PACS is supporting the project for four years.
Lokmitra aims:
-
Mobilise socially excluded communities to participate in School Management Committees and federations (under the RCFCE Act), and parents' associations at municipal wards and block administrations.
-
Establish Basic Shiksha Manch (BSM), an education platform to work on issues of education at the district and state level, and initiate collective advocacy.
-
Build capacities of community groups and civil society organisations across the state on the RCFCE Act to ensure effective implementation of the act in schools.
