The Gramya Sansthan project aims to facilitate collective action to ensure access to sustainable and improved means of livelihood and effective reach of basic service.

The project's purpose is to enable women to access their rights and entitlements through community mobilisation and organisation.

The Gramya Sansthan project works in 124 villages of the Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. PACS is supporting the project for four years.

 

Gramya Sansthan aims:

  • Formation and strengthening of community based organisations (CBOs) and mutual help groups for of women from excluded communities.

  • Forming federations of these CBOs at the block and district administration level for advocacy and collective action.

  • Develop leadership capacity of socially excluded communities and encourage them to actively participate in various committees and local bodies.

  • Opportunities for experience sharing by socially excluded communities at the state administration level to inform and sensitise service providers on challenges faced.

  • Partnership and lobbying with the media and other stakeholders to disseminate information on issues of social exclusion.

 

About Gramya Sansthan

Gramya Sansthan was founded in 1992 and is a women-headed organisation; it has full female representation in all governance and administrative matters. Gramya works to promote the principles of participatory democracy, transparency and equal rights for all citizens.

The vision of the organisation is to uplift marginalised communities through capacity building of socially excluded groups at the local level. Gramya Sansthan is currently concentrating its work only in select areas of Uttar Pradesh.
