About Adharshila
Adharshila was founded in 1995. The organisation works for the eradication of human rights violations in the form of manual scavenging and the rehabilitation of manual scavengers. It also works to empower women to access health, education and livelihood opportunities.
Adharshila has also been promoting formation of community based organisations (CBOs) of socially excluded communities and supporting them to claim their rights and entitlements.
The organisation has been supported by agencies like Action Aid, Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) and several other donors in its efforts to establish community based organisations and lead a campaign to free Safai Karmis (unorganised cleaners of public places) from the oppression of manual scavenging.
