The ISS project aims to improve land accessibility for socially excluded communities, thus enhancing their livelihood security.

The project's purpose is to improve and build the capacity of socially excluded groups, so they can access land resources entitled to them.

The ISS project is working in 350 villages in the Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts of Odisha. PACS is supporting the project for four years

ISS aims

  • Build capacity of the community based organisations (CBOs), groups and community leaders in claiming the rights over land under FRA.

  • Equipping the community to participate in the larger community development process and ensuring the non-discriminatory participation of excluded communities at all levels.

  • Generate mass awareness on different schemes, acts and benefits through the development of different programmes on local radio channels.

About ISS

The Institute of Social Sciences was established in 1985. Motivated and driven by the urgency of strengthening participatory democracy with development. The Institute was established by people of eminence in various fields: the founding chairman of the governing board was Prof. D.L. Lakdawala, a distinguished economist and a former deputy chairman of the Planning Commission.

The Institute has constantly endeavoured to broaden and deepen participatory democracy at the grass-root level, through various activities of research and advocacy. The Institute's contribution on issues of local governance in general and that of Panchayati Raj and empowerment of the marginalised people, is highly acclaimed.
 

Network partners

PACS encourages projects to collaborate with like-minded organisations to deliver the best results in the designated project area. These collaborations are called network projects. ISS is implementing the project with two network partners:

  • Women’s Organisation for Socio Cultural Awareness (WOSCA), Keonjhar

  • Rural Education & Environment Development Society (REEDS), Balasore.
