District :
Jhabua

Theme :
Non-discriminatory access to livelihood rights through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS) and the Forest Rights Act (FRA).

The ACSSS project aims to establish and ensure tribal identity, rights and entitlements for dignified and sustainable livelihoods.

The project's purpose is to achieve sustained livelihoods through agriculture and addressing livelihood-related exclusions, by increasing entitlements to land under FRA, and reduction in migration through increased access to the MGNREG scheme and credit facilities.

The project will be working in 88 villages in two blocks of the Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh. ACSSS is being supported for the four years of  implementation.

ACSSS aims

  • Ensuring representation and participation of the socially excluded communities especially women, at all levels of governance and institutional decision making process from the village to district level.

  • Promote transparency and efficiency through social audit and monitoring involving community participation towards effective implementation of provisions under FRA and MGNREGA.

  • Constant dialogue and deliberation with government officials and other stakeholders at block and district level to ensure effective and non-discriminatory service delivery.

  • Documentation of good practices in addressing challenges and disseminating the information with stakeholders to initiate collective learning.

About ACSSS

ACSSS was formed in 1992 by a group of young tribal people who wanted to work towards serving their community. The organisation began work by organising social and cultural programs such as street plays, rallies, songs and puppet shows. These activities were aimed at eradicating socio-economic inequalities.

Over time they realised that education was the key to awareness, and thus established a primary school to provide free education to tribal children.

ACSSS focuses on enabling excluded communities gain access to water, land and forest resources, along with better access to developmental schemes and programmes.
