The purpose of the Shramajivi Mahila Samity (SMS) project is to reduce the vulnerability of single women through empowerment, access to land, land-based livelihood promotion and health insurance.
The project will be working in 1,181 villages in the West Singbhum, Gumla, Lohardaga, Dumka, Pakur, Bokaro, Giridih and Palamu districts of Jharkhand.
PACS is supporting the implementation of the project for four years.
Shramajivi Mahila Samity aims

Develop the capacity of women-headed community-based organisations (CBOs) and encourage them to raise their voices against non-entitlement of land, other resources and health facilities.

Develop women-led CBOs to represent women at various levels of decision making - at the village, block, district and state level.

Policy advocacy, lobbying and rights-based campaigns, to make government service providers more responsive to the issues of single women.

Advocacy and lobbying to enable single women headed families to claim possession over family and community resources, business ownership and government land.

Process documentation and capture learning through photography, video and case studies for wider dissemination.
About Shramajivi Mahila Samity
Shramajivi Mahila Samity was formed to empower the poor, marginalised and tribal women. SMS organises specific activities focussed on empowerment, food security, livelihoods and establishing human rights. In addition, the organisation holds capacity building training with grass roots organisations headed by women.
The aim of the organisation is to enable tribal and other women to become socio-economically independent, so they can to be part of the decision making process and ensure participation in natural resource management and sustainable development.
