About FEMALE

FEMALE was founded in 1998. The organisation was started by a group of students from a premier social science college in the state, Xavier Institute of Social Sciences, due to their concern with issues of rights and control over resources of marginalised communities. This group felt the need to lend a voice to the voiceless, by helping them to vocalise their opinions against exploitation and neglect by government.

FEMALE primarily works with financially disadvantaged sections of the community, who are settled in geographically challenging locations. Therefore, the majority of people targeted by the organisation belong to the Muslim community, below-poverty-line (BPL) segments, scheduled castes (SCs), scheduled tribes (ST) and other backward classes (OBCs) - locally known as the Munda, Pike and Rautia.
