The Society for Reformation and Advancement of Adivasis aims to ensure non-discriminatory access to basic services by scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) and women.
ASRA aims to achieve this through the promotion of women's participation in governance, increasing accountability of service providers and strengthening civil society as a whole. The project will also work to ensure effective representation of socially excluded groups in community-based organisations (CBOs) for effective and accountable governance.
The project will work in 189 villages in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The project is supported by PACS for four years.
ASRA aims

Build awareness, knowledge and capacity of women and youths on their right to basic services, Right to Information Act, Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act and SC and ST Atrocities Prevention Act.

Proactive involvement of women and youths to address issues of social discrimination through direct action, evidence-based advocacy and campaigning. Leading to regular interactions between government and the community at large.

Establish strategic links with the government and other stakeholders, to ensure the participation of socially excluded groups in decision making.

Ensure representation of excluded groups in Village Education Committees, Village Health and Sanitation Committees and Village Panchayatsk for accountable governance.

Develop information, education and communication (IEC) materials, pamphlets, brochures and handbills for wider dissemination.
About the Society for Reformation and Advancement of Adivasis (ASRA)
ASRA is an organisation formed by tribal youths to work for the welfare and development of marginalised Adivasis and other excluded communities in the region.
The organisation started its work with an awareness generation programme about agri-based and forest-based livelihood initiatives. Its main activities are the promotion of horticulture and watershed projects; creation of community assets; promotion of appropriate technology; and awareness generation and capacity building of CBOs on education, health and nutrition issues.
