Non-discriminatory access to livelihood rights through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS) and Forest Rights Act (FRA).Non-discriminatory access to right to basic services through health and nutrition. |
The aim of the Rachna Manch project is to empower socially excluded communities to claim their entitlements and achieve secure livelihoods and basic services.
This is done through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and health and nutrition rights schemes.
The project's purpose is to empower scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), Dalits, women and other backward classes (OBCs) to establish their traditional rights over land, forest and common property resources; and improve non-discriminatory access to livelihood opportunities.
The project is working in 175 villages in the Raipur, Dhamtari and Kanker districts of Chhattisgarh with 10 partner organisations. PACS is supporting the Rachna Manch project for four years.
Rachna Manch aims:
-
Awareness building of the socially excluded communities on issues relating to MGNREGA, Forest Rights Act (FRA), health and nutrition to ensure their proper implementation.
-
Increased participation of the socially excluded communities in the decision making process at the community level.
-
Capacity building of the members of the socially excluded communities for increased participation in village Panchayat, block and district level institutions and to ensure that policy decisions under MNREGA, FRA, health and nutrition are pro socially excluded communities.
About Rachna Manch
Rachna Manch started its work in the slums of Raipur city in 1993, primarily among women. For the past five years, the organisation has been working actively on issues relating to livelihood rights and basic services.
The organisation has been able to make significant inroads on issues relating to social exclusion and discrimination through awareness campaigns, organising communities through dialogue and discussion, and engaging with the government officials and agencies. It has also encouraged communities to participate in the decision making process, especially at the Panchayat level.
