Kalp Samaj Sevi Sanstha

Affirmation of social justice and economic equity of scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), Muslims and women.

Districts:
Janjgir-Champa, Raipur

Theme :
Non-discriminatory access to livelihood rights through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS).

The KALP project aims to affirm the social justice and economic equity of scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), Muslims and women, through non-discriminatory access to livelihoods, with a special focus on MGNREGA.

The project's purpose is to develop dignified livelihoods for socially excluded groups, enhancing their social standard. It also aims to improve access to rights by increasing access to various programs and projects implemented at the village and Gram Panchayat (local self governance) level; forging a platform of eligible beneficiaries to demand their rightful share.

The KALP project is working in 186 villages of the Janjgir-Champa and Raipur districts of Chhattisgarh, through eight network partners. PACS is supporting the project for four years.

KALP aims:

  • Identification of resources and facilities that are available with central and state governments and make them accessible to the local communities, taking into account their specific needs.

  • Institutional and technical support base for women, especially for accessing MGNREGA and other livelihood and welfare schemes.

  • Organising communities and creating a platform for people to come together and raise their voice for social inclusiveness, both at the Panchayat (local self governance) as well as other levels.

  • Strengthening of Panchayati Raj institutions (PRI) and Gram Sabha by promoting and enhancing women's participation in the Panchayat, Gram Sabha, and their committees.

  • Advocacy and campaign at various institutional levels with officials to create and ensure better services and opportunities for the marginalised communities.

About KALP

Kalp Samaj Sevi Sansthan (KALP) has been working with the marginalised communities from its very inception, with an objective of overall development of these communities. KALP has been primarily working with the scheduled caste groups: Satnami, Suryavanshi, Ganda, Ghasia and with the Gond, Kanwar, and Dhanwar among the scheduled tribes.

The organisation has also started a school, which is currently run and managed by the scheduled caste community at the local level. It is also engaged in the formation of women’s self help groups to address the economic issues facing women. Recently, KALP has been working on health issues, particularly those affecting female sex workers.
