Districts:
Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker

Theme :
Non-discriminatory access to livelihood rights through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS).
Non-discriminatory access to right to basic services through health and education.

The Disha project aims to strengthen local government and people's initiatives for exercising rights; empowering women through capacity building, advocacy and networking.

The project's purpose is to address the gaps in implementation of MNREGA, health and education rights; specifically in respect to gender discrimination and administrative discrimination.

The Disha project will work in 121 villages of Kanker, Bastar and Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh. PACS is supporting the project for three years.

Disha aims:

  • Building capacity of different stakeholders to contribute constructively towards programme planning.

  • Establishing and strengthening of village and block level monitoring committees and community-based organisations (CBOs) to ensure accountability of service providers, thus moving towards sustaining the project.

  • Networking with related agencies for ensuring optimum availability of resources for the excluded communities.

  • Involving appropriate forms of media to raise awareness of the community on the issues of discrimination and the need of improved quality of service delivery.

  • Convergence with government departments and other statutory bodies to avoid duplication of work and generate need based resources for the programme.

About DISHA

DISHA's initial work focused on building the capacities of tribal communities, to enable them to claim their basic rights through collective community action along with strategies to improve the livelihood pattern. Gradually, the organisation's sphere of work expanded to include issues such as livelihood promotion, health, education, civil rights and tribal cultural issues.

Disha primarily works with the tribal communities like Gond, Halba, Pardhi Mariaand and the marginalised sections of the society including the minorities in Kanker district and parts of Sarguja, Bastar and Dantewada districts.
