The project's purpose is to build the capacity of socially excluded communities, especially the Musahars, to demand their entitlements under MGNREGA. The project will work in 248 villages across 14 districts in Bihar: Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Paschim Champaran, Siwan, Saran, Samastipur, Begusarai, Nalanda, Bhojpur, Jehanabad and Gaya.
The MVM project is being supported by PACS for four years.
MVM aims:

Strengthening the scheduled caste (SC) community and generating awareness about MGNREGA.
-
Job cards and 100 days employment at stipulated wage rate, to eligible families especially women and persons with disability (PwD) under MGNREGA.
-
Ownership of community assets created under various schemes, to remain with SC communities.
-
Participation of the Musahars and SCs in local self governance and decision-making bodies.
-
Linking Musahars and SCs to homestead land and other social security schemes.
About MVM
Muzaffarpur Vikas Mandal (MVM) was registered in December 1972 with the vision to improve the welfare of the local communities, with a special focus on the marginalised groups within the socially excluded communities such as Musahars and other scheduled castes.
The organisation has its roots in the political movement of the 1970s when the Musahari block in the district of Muzaffarpur was engulfed by Naxalism.
