The DEEP project aims to generate awareness and mobilise scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST) to access their rights and entitlements for sustainable livelihoods.
The purpose of the project is to create awareness among the Tharu community on issues of sustainable livelihoods, rights and entitlements. The project will also enable these communities in planning and executing development programmes for their own benefit. The project is being supported by PACS for four years and will be working in 168 villages of West Champaran
DEEP aims

Building awareness among SC and ST and mobilise the community to claim their rights and entitlements under FRA and the MGNREGA.

Develop sustainable leadership among the socially excluded communities.

Building capacities of the SC and ST communities too participate in decision making processes at all levels of local self governance.

Advocacy at district level for better implementation and non-discriminatory access to FRA and MGNREGA.
About DEEP
Development Education and Environment Programme (DEEP) is a voluntary organisation committed to social, economic, educational and cultural development of rural areas. DEEP's vision is to fight social inequality, injustice by empowering these communities. The organisation was founded by a group of young activists in the West Champaran district of Bihar in March 1991.
DEEP is primarily working with the with Musahar and Harijan belonging to the scheduled castes, Tharu and Oraon tribes, Muslim and women.
