Giridih district profile
Giridih (area: 4,854 sq km) is one of the districts covered by PACS in Jharkhand. The district was created on December 4, 1972, by carving out parts of Hazaribagh district. Giridih is its administrative headquarters.
The district lies in the central part of the North Chota Nagpur division and is bordered on the north by Jamui and Nawada districts of Bihar, on the east by the districts of Deoghar and Jamtara, on the south by Dhanbad and Bokaro, and on the west by Hazaribagh and Kodarma districts.
The Barakar and the Sakri are two major rivers in the region. Giridih is rich in mineral resources, particularly mica and coal.
Around 13% of the district’s population belongs to the scheduled castes; 10% belongs to scheduled tribes. Muslims constitute around 20% of the population.
