Darbhanga district profile
Darbhanga is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district (area: 2,279 sq km) is a part of Darbhanga division and is bordered on the north by Madhubani district, on the south by Samastipur district, on the east by Saharsa district and on the west by the districts of Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur.
Darbhanga can be divided into four natural divisions: the eastern part consisting of Ghanshyampur, Biraul and Kusheshwarsthan blocks, regions lying south of the Burhi Gandak river, the doab between the Burhi Gandak and Baghmati rivers, and Sadar sub-division. The district has four major river systems: the Baghmati, Little Baghmati, Kamla and Tiljuga.
Darbhanga town is the administrative headquarters of the district.
Around 15% of the district’s population belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute 23% of the population.
