Chatra district profile

Chatra is one of the districts covered by PACS in Jharkhand. The district (area: 3,706 sq km) forms the northeastern part of the state’s North Chota Nagpur division. It is bordered on the north by Gaya district, on the east by Hazaribagh district and on the west by the districts of Palamu and Gaya. A major portion of the district is covered by forest (over 60%), with scattered settlements. Chatra is the district’s administrative headquarters.

Around 31% of Chatra’s population belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute around 12% of the population.
