Bhojpur district profile

Bhojpur is one of the districts covered by PACS in Bihar. The district (area: 2,474 sq km) is located at a height of 579 feet above sea level. Arrah town (also known as Ara) is its administrative headquarters.

The present district of Bhojpur came into existence in 1992; it was earlier part of the erstwhile Shahabad district.

The district is bordered on the north by Saran district of Bihar and Balia district of Uttar Pradesh; on the south by Rohtas district; on the west by the district of Buxar; and on the east by the districts of Patna, Jehanabad and Arwal.

Bhojpur district consists of three sub-divisions: Ara Sadar, Jagdishpur and Piro, comprising 14 development blocks. The entire strip of land between the Ganga on the north and the main line of the Eastern Railways on the south is extremely fertile and is considered to be the best wheat-growing area in Bihar.

The Ganga forms the northern boundary of Bhojpur district. The Sone is another important river here.

Around 15% of the population of this district belongs to the scheduled castes. Muslims constitute around 7% of the population.
